The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bogotá, in collaboration with the Embassy of Austria and the Goethe-Institut Colombia, with the support of the Asociación Israelita Montefiore (AIM), has organized a series of events from May 27th to June 29th, 2024, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka's death.
On May 29th, the AIM hosted the opening of the exhibition "Franz Kafka: A Man of His Time and Our Own," prepared by the Czech Centers. The exhibition is based on the book by Radek Malý, with illustrations by Renáta Fučíková. The inauguration was led/opened by Czech Ambassador Vladimír Eisenbruk, Austrian Ambassador Gerhard Doujak, Goethe-Institut Colombia Director Stephanie Maiwald, and AIM President Arieh Katz. Starting June 17th, the exhibition will move to the Goethe-Institut for two weeks, while the Kafka Total exhibition, which was inaugurated at the Goethe-Institut on May 27th with the participation of representatives from the Czech and Austrian embassies, will simultaneously relocate to the AIM.
Throughout the more than month-long cycle, both exhibitions will be enriched with an extensive accompanying program, including German-language reading clubs, film screenings, debates on Kafka and his work, and a virtual reality experience of The Metamorphosis. The complete program is available on the Goethe-Institut website.
On June 6, with the exhibition "Franz Kafka: A Man of His Time and Our Own," in the backdrop, the AIM hosted the event Café Kafka, where visitors had the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the exhibition, listen to a lecture on "Jewish Kafka" while enjoying coffee and pastries, or taste "Czech" beer (brewed in Colombia) and Austrian wine.
