Monitoring of the Small Scale Project in Arbegona

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa supported the Arbegona Livelihood Enhancement Project implemented by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus - Development and Social Services Commission (EECMY - DASSC). The aim of the project was to supply mainly female-run households with improved seeds (barley, carrots, beans), poultry and sheep.

On October 26, 2020, Head of Development Cooperation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic Jonáš Vnouček visited 3 out of 4 project-supported kebeles (Chucho, Katana, Kalalicho and Sunbura) within Arbegona woreda. The project first conducted a community meeting, which decided what households needed help. The project offered several interventions: delivery of six hens and two roosters, two pregnant sheep, or delivery of improved seeds. Beneficiaries were also trained on how to increase yields and how to care for their animals properly.

The beneficiaries were poor, mainly female-headed households, and the aim is to use the aid provided to increase the income of these households. That is to breed the provided animals and to harvest better yields so the households can sell the surplus.
