The Embassy of the Czech Republic celebrated Czech National Day on October 28, 2010. Over 300 people attended a lunch reception with Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Daniel Koštoval who opened the event.
During the celebration, the Czech quartet Rudolflet sang both the American and Czech National anthems, followed by a selection of Czech pieces to commemorate the occasion. The group, under the direction of Lenka Pištěcka, included Ondřej Holub, Filip Dámec, Michal Podlaha, and David Pištěcký (they are all 19 yrs. old). Martin Rudovský accompanied the group on the piano.
Czechoslovak independence was declared in Wenceslas Square on October 28, 1918, beginning a new era for two nations which had previously been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The president of the “First Republic” was Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.
