STRAŠIDLA - Czech Legends and Mythical Creatures

The Czech Embassy will host its fourth annual Strašidla - Czech Legends and Mythical Creatures, an evening of scares and thrills for young children, on October 22, 2026. (Book session below.) Explore a new trail and exciting characters.

Ever heard of the Noonday or Twilight Witch, Headless Knight, Forest Demon, or the Water Goblin? Join us for a glimpse into Czech fairy tales and folklore. An introduction to Czech mythical creatures will be followed by a walk, intended for children’s amusement, through the haunted forest upon the grounds of the Czech Embassy. Pondering Czech legends, adults will enjoy understanding the origins and explanations behind the most notorious, intriguing, and a few lovable, fictitious yet legendary sprites, spirits, and ghosts.

As part of the event, the amazing Science Guys will also showcase hands-on, bubbling, and engaging experiments for kids.

This event is intended for children ages 5-10 years old.

Please RSVP with your child’s name and age. Intended for children ages 5-10.

This is not a drop off event. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

No large bags are allowed. Small purses may be checked as you pass through security for entrance. RSVP confirmation and photo ID required (for adults accompanying children).

Parking: Non-metered parking is available on Spring of Freedom Street and Tilden Street.

Closest Metro: The Embassy is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Van Ness Metro Station.
