Launch: 2018 Anniversary Celebrations - Czech Independence

Date: 07 February 2018 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Venue: Czech Embassy

The Embassy of the Czech Republic launches the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of Czech Independence, featuring the opening of the exhibition "Phenomenon Masaryk," courtesy of the National Museum of the Czech Republic, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at 6 pm, with remarks by National Museum Director Michal Lukeš. The special exhibit focuses on the unique personality of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the founding father and first President of Czechoslovakia.

The project depicts his many roles as professor of philosophy, sociologist, writer, politician, journalist, visionary, democrat, father, and husband. A combination of display panels and projections portrays Masaryk’s worldly inspiration and broad influence as well as his critical thinking and courage to oppose the majority while defending justice and human values.

The Czech people celebrate 100 years of independence and sovereignty in 2018. Collaborating on security and alliance throughout the century with the United States of America, the Czechs mark a centennial of struggle for freedom as well as the resolute establishment of a thriving democracy. This year, the Czech Republic rejoices in its prosperity and industry as well as mutual transatlantic inspiration and friendship.
