Film: The Snake Brothers
24.11.2015 / 22:10
AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center will present the US Premiere of director Jan Prusinovský’s The Snake Brothers (Kobry a užovky) on December 15, at 7 pm, as part of the EU Showcase. The film will also screen on December 16 at 9:15 pm.
Called a “mordant Czech comedy of brotherly love” by Variety. Real-life brothers Krystof and Matej Hádek play “Cobra” and “Viper” in this gritty melodrama, shot through with moments of anarchic comedy. Junkie younger brother Cobra still lives at home with Ma (Jana Sulcová), periodically robbing houses to fund his addictions. It falls to older brother Viper to keep the other in line, but, with a drinking problem and job troubles of his own, he’s ill-equipped to look after anyone else.
Reviewer Martin Kudláč for Cineuropa calls the film “a cinematic slice of real life.”
Krystof Hádek received Best Actor at the 2015 Karlovy Vary Film Festival for his role in the film.
