Exhibition Opening: Lost Europe
17.06.2023 / 20:00
The AU Museum at the Katzen Arts Center will open the exhibition Lost Europe: On the Edge of Memories on June 17, at 6 pm.
Take an intimate walk across rural Ukraine through the lens of three Czech photographers: Karel Cudlín, Jan Dobrovský, and Martin Wágner. This is the first time these black and white pictures will be exhibited in the United States.
The three photographers spent their youth in Central Europe under a Soviet-controlled communist regime and lived through the societal, political, and economic changes and democratization of the revolution of 1989. Following the fall of the Soviet empire in 1991, they witnessed and recorded the transformation of the daily life of rural Ukraine.
The exhibition features over 75 photographs taken between 1991 and 2018. Through these images, step into a place full of the poetics and drama of a world that will soon be gone forever.
