"Love, Hate, Joy" Towards a Phenomenology of Affective Consciousness
Wednesday, 10 June 2015, 4:00pm - 5:30pm, IWM library
What is the specific character of emotions such as love, hate, joy, sadness, anger, esteem, or indignation? What is the role of the values by which they are aroused (valuations or devaluations)? If approached in the phenomenological manner, these questions can be rephrased by asking for the specific kind of intentional structure that may be present in emotions. The seminar will discuss ways of how to develop a phenomenology of affective consciousness and present the philosophical work of Dietrich von Hildebrand as one possible approach to these questions.
Martin Cajthaml is Lecturer in Philosophy and Patrology at the Theologic Faculty of the Palacký University Olomouc. Currently he is a Jan Patočka Senior Visiting Fellow at the IWM.
