Czech Sculptor Václav Lemon at the "Mazaalai 2025" Ice Sculpture Competition

The Mongolian National Ice Carving Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth organized the 2nd International Ice Sculpture Competition, "Mazaalai 2025." The event commenced on January 23, 2025, in the National Park of Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar, where the sculptures will remain on display throughout the winter. 

The competition brought together 14 teams from around the world, including participants from the Czech Republic, Poland, China, Russia, Malaysia, the USA, South Korea, and Mexico. A total of 28 artists created ice masterpieces under the theme "WELCOME TO MONGOLIA." Czech sculptor Václav Lemon joined forces with Mongolian artist Damdin Enkhjargal to create an ice sculpture titled "Horse Wing."

Ice sculpting has become a recognized art form in Mongolia since the early 21st century. Local artists have gained international acclaim for their skill and the integration of traditional Mongolian design elements. This year's competition was won by a team from Malaysia- Mongolia, while the second place went to Poland- Mongolian team, and the third place was awarded to a Mongolian team. Last year's inaugural competition was part of the "SAVE MAZAAALAI" campaign, aimed at protecting the endangered Gobi bear.
