25th Anniversary of „People In Need“

The Czech NGO People in Need celebrated its 25th anniversary in the premises of Sky Plaza in Ulaanbaatar.

The co-organizer of the event was the Embassy of Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar. The event was attended by about 60 invited guests who were and are in some way connected with the activities of PIN in Mongolia.

The event was initiated by the director of the local permanent representation of PIN Mark Tasse, who gave the introductory speech to Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Jiří Brodský.

To 25th anniversary of the PIN, the Ambassador briefly summed up its establishment and mission in the Czech Republic, but especially in the world where it has become a recognized humanitarian, developmental, educational and human rights organization. Afterwards, he focused on the activities of PIN in Mongolia and mentioned some successful projects such as helping pastoralists and local communities living in remote parts of Mongolia. The implementation of the "Mobile Clinic" project has improved the availability of basic medical care far from the capital. The successful project "One World in Schools" showed through short documentary films on important social issues that are not only facing Mongolia. Drugs, domestic violence or alcoholism are things that can not be left without a solution in modern society. Improving the level of education and cooperation with local MUST and MULS universities give prerequisites for further development in the fields of education and science. It was People in Need, who identified the forest area in Darchan Uul, where the Domogt Sharyngol forest company is operating, suitable for the implementation of a bilateral forestry project, which, in cooperation with FRDC and MET and also other donors like GIZ, FAO, UN becomes a model project in forestry development across Mongolia. People in Need played a significant role in the implementation of humanitarian relief projects, as well as the elimination of the causes of repeatedly more frequent downturns (extreme winter in Mongolia). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic provided the People in Need organization a grant of about EUR 5.4 million per year. Part of these funds were used in Mongolia, with the remaining in countries where this assistance is  needed.

After the ambassador's speech, followed a short documentary about 25 years of its history and the activities of PIN in the Czech Republic and all around the world. After the screening followed a speech by Mark Tass, Director of PIN in Mongolia, focusing on particular projects implemented in Mongolia. The space was also provided by project leaders, local partners and international non-governmental organizations. After the speeches and presentations followed a reception.
