Takhi transport from the Czech Republic to Mongolia held successfully in 2015

Another four mares flew and reached to Mongolia in perfect order and good shape
 

On 5 July 2015 at 15:45 local time, Czech Military CASA airplane loaded with 4 takhis was landed at the airport in Bulgan soum of Khovd province without any problem. The director of the Prague Zoo and the main initiator of the project “Return of Wild horses” Mr. Miroslav Bobek said “Return was quite complicated this year due to extremely hot weather in the Czech Republic and heavy rains in Mongolia”. Another complication was an injury caused by Rabea to one of our colleagues on the plane, so compared to last year mares’ transportation was prolonged by several hours, he added. "Of course - everything bad happens for something good - while the aircraft was delayed in Novosibirsk, where injured breeder was kindly treated by the Russian medical staff, sky over Khovd became clear - and landing on the Bulgan airport’s unpaved runway went smoothly. Torrential rains that had fallen in western Mongolia few weeks earlier consequently forced trucks to change the route - and land transport has been additionally extended by about a hundred kilometers.

After 36 hours of arduous journey, Querida, Rabea, Kira and Paradise mares could be finally released to the acclimatization enclosure in the Gobi B Strictly Protected Area​​ in the night of Sunday to Monday. In the very same area Gretel, Bayan and Ulla mares introduced last year were released from the acclimatization enclosure to the wild nature one day after.

This year's transport was accompanied by the Head of the International Department of the Office of the President of the Czech Republic Mr. Hynek Kmonicek, who said: "The horse is the soul of Mongolia. The return of wild horses to Mongolian Gobi means returning a bit of its soul. Thanks to Zoo Praha and Czech Air Force people, we leave something for the next generation here and that is the best diplomacy". Transportation was taped by the Czech Television, TV Prima and Czech Radio alongside.

Prague Zoo, in cooperation with the Czech Army, transported 19 Przewalski horse’s mares in total during five times transports from the Czech Republic to Mongolia. This year, we celebrate the 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Mongolia and the Czech Republic, hence this was praiseworthy activity of the Prague Zoo has further emphasized by publishing a book by Prague Zoo Director M. Bobek titled “Where Do Our Takhis Fly From?”, containing columns about animals and their care. Immediately after their return to the Czech Republic, Prague Zoo people began to prepare for next transport in the year to come, aiming to help Mongolian takhis to reach the population of that will be self-sustaining once again, as they were before in the Mongolian Steppes in 50s of the last century.
