Poslední závod / The Last Race

The Last Race

The Last Race

Drama, historical

Director: Tomáš Hodan

Cast: Kryštof Hádek, Judit Bárdos, Marek Adamczyk

Time: 102 min.

Year: 2022

Synopsis: The drama recounts the true story of Czech skiing pioneers Bohumil Hanč and Václav Vrbata, who participated in an international race in the Krkonoše Mountains in 1913. When a blizzard renders the race impossible, German athlete Emerich Rath risks his life to try to save his friend. Witness an incredible story of friendship, courage and bravery. The film reconstructs the race almost minute by minute and shows life at the beginning of the twentieth century amid poverty and hardship as well as the relations between native Czech and German populations. This story reveals how rivalries can be set aside, with the only race that counts being that to save a fellow human life. In the hundred years that followed, the events of this story were reinterpreted and adapted to suit contemporary social and political ideologies. This film aims to set the record straight, and finally show what really happened that day.
