From 27 to 29 May 2026, Czechia took part in SPEXA in Tokyo, one of the most important industry gatherings focused on space technologies, industrial cooperation, and international collaboration in the space sector. The Czech delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as the companies OPTOKON, ESC Aerospace, Stratosyst, Kacadu Corp., and HiLase, who together showcased the breadth and sophistication of the Czech space ecosystem and its growing international ambitions.
This year’s edition of the fair provided an important platform for establishing both commercial and institutional partnerships and confirmed that Japan represents a highly promising partner for the Czech space sector. The Czech participation focused not only on presenting the specific technological solutions and capabilities of the participating companies, but also on introducing Czechia as a country with a strong industrial, research, and innovation base in the field of space. An important part of the programme was also the presentation by the Ministry of Industry and Trade representative Ondřej Šváb on the Mars Stage, which introduced the Czech space ecosystem, its institutional framework, and opportunities for international cooperation.
An important accompanying event within the Czech participation was the reception held at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, which created a representative platform for meetings between Czech delegates and representatives of Japanese industry, government institutions, and key international organisations active in the areas of space and security. The reception was attended, among others, by representatives of NASA, JAXA, and ESA, with JAXA representatives delivering the opening remarks. The presence of these institutions, together with Japanese partners, underlined the relevance of the Czech participation and the growing interest in cooperation with Czech entities.
A particularly strong element of the reception was the participation of NÚKIB (the Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency), whose involvement sent an important message to Japanese partners: that Czechia is an international and trustworthy partner that sees economic security as an inherent part of activities in the space sector and other critical technologies. This dimension of the Czech presentation demonstrated that the Czech approach to the space sector is based not only on technological excellence and innovation capacity, but also on a responsible and strategic understanding of security aspects, which are becoming increasingly important for contemporary international cooperation.
The Czech presentation also included targeted media outreach. For the trade fair and professional audience, an interview with Ondřej Šváb of the Ministry of Industry and Trade was arranged for SpaceMedia, while the Deputy Director of NÚKIB gave an interview to Security Next. Both media appearances contributed to raising awareness of Czech priorities in the areas of space activities, industrial cooperation, and security, and helped present Czech stakeholders to a broader Japanese and international audience.
The Czech participation at SPEXA 2026 also delivered concrete results in the form of newly established cooperation between Czech companies and institutions and their Japanese counterparts. In addition to business contacts and project discussions, the event also marked a breakthrough in institutional cooperation with Japanese institutions, creating a strong foundation for the further development of Czech-Japanese relations in the fields of the space industry, research, and related critical technologies.
Czech participation in this year’s edition of SPEXA once again confirmed that the Czech space ecosystem has a great deal to offer in a highly competitive global environment — not only because of the quality of its companies and technologies, but also because of its ability to connect industry, government, research, and the security dimension into a credible and internationally compelling partnership offer.
