Ambassador handed over the Czech Cup to the winner of New Year Grand Sumo Tournament

On 28 January 2024, the finals of the Grand Sumo Tournament took place in the Tokyo hall of Ryogoku Kokugikan, whose winner became the sumo wrestler Terunofuji. During the closing ceremony, the winner was awarded by a diploma and a Czech crystal hand-cut cup by Martin Klučar, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan.

 

According to a long tradition established in 1970, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Japan presents the winner of the Grand Sumo Tournament with a diploma and a hand-cut cup made of Czech crystal. During the closing ceremony, the winner was awarded by a diploma and a cup by Mr. Martin Klučar, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan.

Yokozuna Terunofuji claimed his ninth top-division title on Sunday, 28 January 2024, by defeating sumo wrestler Kotonowaka in a thrilling championship playoff at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo.
