Every year, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo presents the “Czech Ambassador’s Prize” crystal cup to the Japanese runner who finishes best in this marathon. This year, the Fukuoka Marathon took place on Sunday, December 1st, and the crystal cup was presented by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Japan, Mr. Martin Klučar, to the Japanese long-distance runner Yuya Yoshida, who ran the marathon in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 16 seconds – the third best time in Japanese history.

The tradition of presenting the cup, expressing friendship between Czechia and Japan, has been going on since the 1970 World Exhibition in Osaka. It was inspired by the great performances of Czech marathon runner Pavel Kantorek, who successfully participated in the Fukuoka Marathon six times between 1957 and 1962 and even won it in 1961.
