Saitama city gave a commemorative decorative curtain to the Embassy on the motifs of Tokyo Olympic Games 2020

A delegation from the city of Saitama visited the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo and donated a decorative curtain, which represents the Czech Olympic basketball team in its print.

On 19 October 2021, Ms. Monika Dobiášová, Consul of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, received a delegation from the city of Saitama, consisting of Mr. Yoshikazu Takeuchi, Director of the Olympic and Paralympic Department, Mr. Kazuhiko Ogura and Mr. Takamitsu Tanaka. Ms. Dobiášová took over from the delegation a commemorative decorative curtain made by the city of Saitama to support individual basketball teams, including the Czech team, that participated in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, which took place due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2021.

These decorative curtains, whose real size is 3.4 m in height and 2 m in width and weighing about 4 kg, were exhibited until September 2021 at the Saitama Shin-Toshin station, which is closest to the Saitama Super Arena, a basketball court.

The design of the curtains is based on the tradition of Japanese woodcuts or desk prints Ukiyo-e and portrays the iconic buildings and flags of the countries of the Olympic basketball teams. The curtain made for the Czech team portrays a man in a kimono in the colors of the Czech flag with a basketball, representing the Czech men's Olympic team, and Prague Castle in the background, which is an integral symbol not only of the capital city of Prague but also the Czech Republic itself. We thank the city of Saitama for such a beautiful gift.
