(This article expired 30.01.2021 / 09:45.)

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was designated by the United Nations on January 27 on the commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, in which from 1940 till 1945 over million people passed away.

In Japan, the memorial event was organized by Tokyo Research Holocaust Education Center in Jewish Community Center in Tokyo by screening a new documentary film “Who Will Write Our Story”. Opening speech has been given by Mrs. Irit Savion-Waidergorn, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Israel in Japan, followed by a speech of Mr. Milan Slanec, chargé d´affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Japan.

During this special event Mrs. Fumiko Ishioka, a Japanese directress of Tokyo Holocaust Education Resource Center, mentioned a personnage of Mr. George Brady, a Czech Holocaust survivor, who passed away in Toronto recently. The audience paid a homage of this extraordinary man.

Mr. Brady became famous around the world as a protagonist in „Hana´s suitcase“, a bestseller written by Karen Levine about him and his sister Hana and their journey as Jewish children under the Nazis. The story of Hana´s suitcase had been revealed just thanks to Mrs. Fumiko Ishioka.
