
Czech national Brno Philharmonic on a Tour of Japan

The Brno Philharmonic Orchestra visited several Japanese cities, pleasing fans of classical music. On February 15 and 17, it performed in front of the sold-out Tokyo Opera City with a cycle of Russian (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky) and Czech (Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák) classical music.
Representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Czech Center in Tokyo gladly accepted an invitation to the concerts of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo Opera City and therefore had a chance to enjoy a unique experience. The Orchestra with international participation was led by the conductor Leoš Svárovský and during the performance, the audience could have heard Smetana’s Vltava and other music treasures.
On Monday, February 18, Mrs. Marie Kučerová, Managing Director of the Brno Philharmonic, and Mr. Pavel Šindelář, Orchestra Manager for foreign countries, were received by the Chargé d'affaires a.i., Milan Slanec at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo. Other participants of the festive lunch were the Consul, Mrs. Monika Dobiášová, the Director of the Czech Center, Mrs. Eva Takamine and Mrs. Petra Karpíšková, Assistant to the Ambassador. The aim of the meeting was to establish deeper connections, which would allow mutual cooperation between the two institutions.
