Nomination for the prize “Czech book 2006”

Among the fourteen titles, chosen by a jury composed of academics, translators and booksellers, was selected a book of Vlasta Čiháková Noshiro “Mitsuko, the mother of modern Europe” from thepublishing house JOTA.
The book is dedicated to the life of a Japanese woman Mrs. Mitsuko Aoyama, who married an Austro-Hungarian diplomat Count Heinrich Coudenhove-Kalergi by the end of 19th century. Mitsuko hadseven children. All the children became prominent personalities. The most famous was Richard, a founder of the peace movement Pan-Europe, the forerunner of today's European Union. After the untimely death of her husband, she run alone the estate in Poběžovice in western Bohemia . She died in 1941.
