Ambassador Tomáš Dub honored the memory of fallen Czechoslovak legionaries

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Japan Tomáš Dub, together with the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic Michal Kottman visited the Catholic cemetery in Fuchu on 27 October 2016 on the occasion of the upcoming 98th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, to honor the Czechoslovak legionaries who died in Japan during the transit from Russia to Europe in 1918 and 1919 as a result of injuries sustained in the WWI.

The memorial to Czechoslovak legionaries in Fuchu was made possible by the joint efforts of the Czech Embassy in Tokyo, the Czechoslovak legionaries, the Military History Institute in Prague and the Czech Ministry of Defence. It was unveiled in December 2015 by the Minister of Defence Martin Stropnický on the occasion of his official visit to Japan.
