Prof. Mařík, one of the most oustanding personalities of the Czech robotics and cybernetics and director of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics, was one of key lecturers at the Forum of the Robot Revolution Initiative 2016 held in Tokyo on October 20. He also visited some of the Japanese government institutions and top Japanese manufacturers. Prof. Mařík’s visit to Japan was organised in close cooperation with the Prague office of the JETRO agency.
Prof. Ing. Vladimír Mařík, DrSc. Dr.h.c. is a founder and director of the new Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC), affiliated with the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in Prague. ČVUT is one of the biggest and oldest technical universities in Europe. It was founded on the basis of a decree issued on January 18th, 1707 by Emperor Josef I. CTU currently has eight faculties (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering, Architecture, Transportation Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Information Technology) and about 21,000 students. For the 2016/17 academic year, CTU offers its students 119 study programmes and 442 fields of study within these programmes. The CIIRC‘s ambition is to establish the R&D infrastructure and the open creative academic environment, attract top foreign and domestic experts as employees, Ph.D. students, other students, collaborators and provide them with an appealing working place. CIIRC signed a number of agreements on cooperation with leading global companies in the field of robotics and cybernetics, such as Siemens, Rockwell, Eaton and others.
In Japan, prof. Mařík participated in the international conference on robotics (Forum of the Robot Revolution Initiative 2016) as one of its key lecturers (invited speakers). He also met with representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Japanese scientific institutions - NEDO, AIST Tsukuba and the Robot Revolution Iniative. He visited the Nagoya plant of the Mitsubishi Electric Co. Apart from the presentation of CIIRC and its interest in establishing scientific cooperation with its Japanese counterparts and companies, prof. Mařík informed his partners of the upcoming Czech robotics mission to Japan which is supposed to take place at the beginning of April 2017. Robotics and cybernetics could become the first field for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR) and the New Energy Development Organisation of Japan (NEDO) signed in June 2016.
