Five Czech Short Term Observers from the Czech Republic participated in the International Election Observation Mission of ODIHR who observed the local government elections in Albania.
The elections took place on Sunday, June 21, 2015. 63 political parties were registered for the elections, majority of them joined two main coalitions. The first one was led by the Socialist Party and the second was headed by the opposition Democratic Party.
36 341 candidates participated in the elections for municipal councils and 158 candidates for mayors. The elections were held under the newly adopted administrative and territorial reform of Albania, in which the government units were lowered from 373 units to 61 newly formed municipalities.
The participation of the Czech observers in election observation mission of ODIHIR is an evidence of sustained attention of the Czech Republic towards the quality of election processes and democratic standards around the world.
