The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana contributed to the Festival of European Literature in Tirana 2025, the second year of which took place under the auspices of the EU Delegation in the first week of December, with a lecture by Czech Albanian scholar Přemysl Vinš on the translation of the comic book version of Karel Čapek's dystopian play and novel R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) from 1921 into Albanian. The translation was carried out by the Embassy as part of ongoing activities to support Czech literature.
Přemysl Vinš presented the translation of the comic book R.U.R., created by Czech illustrator Kateřina Čupová, at his lecture at Europe House in Tirana on December 4, 2025. The lecture was attended by students of secondary schools in Tirana with an interest in literature (Gymnasium Petro Nini, Liceu Jordan Misja, Qemal Stafa, Arben Broci and Cajupi). A very lively and stimulating discussion with the students was also hosted by Erilda Selaj, an Albanian literary expert and lover of Karel Čapek, who pointed out, among other things, the importance of Čapek's humanistic legacy in current challenges such as digitization or artificial intelligence. Copies of the R.U.R comic book were delivered to a number of other secondary and selected universities throughout Albania. The Embassy plans to use the translation of the artistically valuable modern concept of Čapek's legendary play for meetings on Czech literature in the coming years.
