Franz Kafka in Albania - 100 years since the death of literary genius

To commemorate 100 years of the legacy of the exceptional personality Franz Kafka, a native of Prague from the German-speaking Jewish community, the symposium "Franz Kafka in Albania" was organized on June 18, 2024 in cooperation with the Czech and Austrian embassies in Tirana and the Albanian National Library.

An exhibition of Kafka's books and books about him in Albanian from the collections of the National Library framed the discussion forum, which included the narration of the leading Czech literary figure Markéta Mališová, the reading of selected translations of the author's work into Albanian, and the performance of Charlotte Aigner, vice-president of the Austrian Franz Kafka Society.

Lovers and connoisseurs of Kafka's works, Markéta Mališová and Charlote Aigner, who came from Prague and Vienna, explained the fundamental factors influencing Kafka's work and the last moments of his life in the sanatorium in Klosterneuburg. Writers, translators, publishers, lecturers, students and journalists gathered at the meeting, which was accompanied by many immortal quotes by Franz Kafka.

"Logic may be unshakable, but it cannot resist a person who wants to live." Franz Kafka

The meeting allowed a sensitive insight into the work of the cult author, which is difficult for many readers to grasp at first, but which, according to his own words, "is nothing but literature and cannot and does not want to be anything else".
