Ambassador´s Address
Zdeněk Beránek, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Estonia
It is a great honor to represent Czechia in Estonia, entrusted by the Czech President with this responsibility.
Our two countries share many historical similarities—from the cultural revival of the 19th century to the struggles for statehood and national survival in the 20th. Yet, more important than our shared past is the deep understanding, shaped by history, of the value of independence, freedom, and democracy.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, close cooperation and mutual support among democratic nations have become even more crucial. Freedom is indivisible—this principle guides the strong partnership between Czechia and Estonia. Together, we contribute to Europe’s security and stability, essential to our own freedom and prosperity.
In my role, I will focus with my team on concrete projects that strengthen this cooperation. This includes security—from cyberspace and societal resilience to hard security. We aim to connect partners in defense, research, and development. Our economic ties also hold great potential beyond security. Czech cars are already popular in Estonia, and Czech trains and trolleybuses will soon follow. Estonia, with its digital leadership and vibrant IT sector, offers many opportunities for collaboration.
We also seek to deepen mutual understanding and appreciation of our rich cultural heritage, while supporting people-to-people connections at every level.
None of this would be possible without the dedicated team at the Embassy in Tallinn, to whom I extend my thanks. I also acknowledge the lasting efforts of our predecessors, whose work laid the foundation for our strong bilateral ties.
