
Long-stay Residence Permit application - Study

Long-stay residence permit is issued to students of accredited study programmes at Czech higher education institutions.
When all required documentation at hand, applicants for long-stay resident permits are asked to make an appointment to submit their applications at this Ofiice via email Taipei.Visa@mzv.gov.cz.
Please beware that the decision procedure can take up to 60 days, in certain cases up to 90 days. Contact the Office regarding the application decision only if you have not been contacted by us after the 60-day period expires. The Office has no influence over the length of the procedure.
The long-stay residence permit is collected in the Czech territory. In case the application is approved, the Czech Economic and Cultural Office issues a special type of a long-stay visa for the purpose of collecting the residence permit.
Important!!!All residents who want to submit their long term visa/stay at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei must prove that they have been staying in Taiwan legitimately and continuously for at least 2 years. In case they are not able to prove it, the application will not be accepted.
Long-stay residence permit application requirements:
1. a valid travel document (recognized by the Czech Republic, not older than 10 years, containing at least 2 free pages, its validity must be at least 3 months longer than the validity of the long-term visa),
2. 2 photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm, light background, no head covering except for religious reasons),
3. a duly completed and signed long-stay residence permit application form ( Žádost o dlouhodobý pobyt (PDF, 815 KB)),
4. a document confirming the purpose of stay (i.e. the original enrolment letter in the university or in other accredited study programme, issued in the Czech language),
5. a proof of accommodation:
- provided by the applicant - either the original lease contract or its certified copy, the official declaration of the accommodation provider with his/her attested signature, or a document proving the applicant´s ownership of a flat or a house in the Czech Republic – in original or a certified copy, issued in the Czech language, etc.),
6. a proof of funds in the Czech Republic and the proof of access to them from the Czech territory, such as
- in case of scholarship - original document proving that the applicant is entitled to a scholarship from the Taiwanese government – such document needs to be further attested and translated into the Czech language – for details see Remarks below,
- in case of self-paying students - an original or stamped bank account statement (best periodical one) with a copy of an international credit card linked to this account – in case the bank account’s owner is the parent, there must be a declaration by the parent that s/he will support the offspring during the stay in the Czech Republic, translated to the Czech language - suggested form (PDF, 264 KB) may be used) – periodical bank account statements submitted in English do not need to be translated into the Czech language;
7. a police clearance certificate (provided in original containing the attestation stamp from the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs - for details see Remarks below):
- issued by the applicant´s home country,
- issued by the state in which the applicant has had a continuous residence for 6 months or more in total in the last 3 years, if relevant,
Important Notice for Visa Applicants:
The legalization certificate (apostille or superlegalization) must remain physically attached to the document to which it was issued.
Detaching the certificate (e.g., tearing it off) is strictly prohibited and may result in the document being rejected during the visa application process
8. If the applicant is minor (below 18 years), a written consent of both parents with the student’s stay in the Czech territory is obligatory (the declaration must be translated to the Czech language - dual language form (PDF, 204 KB) can be used).
9. After the long-stay residence permit has been approved – upon collection of the visa, a certificate of comprehensive medical insurance needs to be presented. More information regarding comprehensive health insurance can be found in an article Medical insurance for stays longer than 90 days
Important Remarks:
- the application needs to be submitted by the applicant in person at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei,
- the application fees and other possible consular fees (e.g. for superlegalization, verification of translation, etc.) need to be paid in cash in TWD or by card in CZK,
- all original letters issued by the foreign government authorities (i.e. police clearance, birth certificate, high school/university diplomas, etc.) MUST contain the attestation stamp from the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kindly note that the attestation stamp needs to be placed on the original or a certified copy, but not on a simple copy!

- all foreign documents MUST be translated to the Czech language.
- all documents must be submitted in original or a certified copy!
- long-stay resident permit applications are decided by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic within 60 days. During the decision period the applicant may be called in for an interview at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office, if requested by the respective Czech authorities. As the application procedure follows the Administrative Code of the Czech Republic, the protocol form the interview needs to be written in the Czech language. The applicant may bring his/her interpretor, or the interpretor may be designated at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office.
