As from 11 January 2011, holders of Taiwanese passports with the ID number stated in the travel document no longer require Schengen visa for short periods of stay (up to 90 days) provided the purpose of the stay is other than employment. Holders of Taiwanese passports require visa/permits for long-term stays (over 90 days).

Holders of Taiwanese passport may launch long-term visa or long-term residence permit application at any Embassy or Consulate General of the Czech Republic abroad. Other foreign nationals may launch long-term visa and long-term residence permit application at CECO in case they have been residing in Taiwan continously for at least 2 years or if they are citizens of states listed in Ordinance of the Ministry of the Interior no. 429/2010 Coll.

Personal appearance is always required.

Types of Visas

• Schengen (short-stay) visas
  • are issued for a stay in the Czech Republic / Schengen Area for up to 90 days (including "A" type of airport visas)
  • applications must be submitted in person at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei
• Long stay visas
  • are issued for stays in the Czech Republic over 90 days. Special long-stay visas are issued for the collection of a temporary/permanent residence permit in the Czech territory. Long-stay visa entitles its holder to visit other Schengen countries for maximum of 90 days within every 180-day period,
  • applications must be submitted in person at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei

The Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, in accordance with § 31 para. 3 point a) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Foreigners in the Czech Republic requests all applicants for long-stay visas and long-term stays who are going to submit applications at this embassy to submit a document similar to an extract from a criminal record issued by the state of which the applicant is a national and the same document issued by the states where the applicant has been residing continuously in the last 3 years for more than 6 months. If the state does not issue such document a solemn declaration is requested.

For details on visa fees consult the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Kindly note that at the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, the visa fees are collected in TWD if paid cash (depending on the monthly average exchange rate) ,CZK/EUR if paid by card.

Working languages

In accordance with § 169 of the Act no. 326/1999 Sb., about the stay of foreigners in the territory of the Czech Republic, the working languages of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei are Czech and English.
