The members of the international organisation "Francophonie" are united by the French language and common values (such as cultural diversity, democracy, strengthening the rule of law or environmental protection).
The Czech Republic has been an observer country since 1999, demonstrating close cultural, political and economic ties with France.
As one of many events during the month of Francophonie – March – the French Institute in Stockholm organised a literary reading from books with an element of humour at the International Library in Kungsholmen, Stockholm. The event took place on 9 March 2023 and was attended by embassies of Belgium, Morocco, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Tunisia. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm presented the novel On the Roof is Mendelssohn by Jiří Weil in a French version, presented by Julie Barbleu. Jiří Weil, a Czech writer, literary critic, journalist and translator of Jewish origin, is popular in France and this book is on the list of 100 literary works that every Frenchman should have read.
