The screening of the Czech-Burmese film The Monk

On 27 October the Ambassador Jiří Šitler visited a screening of the film The Monk which was produced in a Czech-Burmese co-production.

The film was directed by an absolvent of The Film and TV School in Prague The Maw Naing, and was screened for the first time during the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary in 2014. The producer of the film is a Czech documentarist Vít Janeček. The whole project was supported by the Transition Promotion Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and was co-produced by the Czech Television.

The main protagonist of the film, young boy named Zawana, enters a small monastery. He has doubts if this lifestyle is the right one for him, but grows fond of the abbot. The subsequent events force him to decide what his future path should be.
