Norwegian premiere of Leoš Janáček´s opera „The Cunning Little Vixen“ in Bergen

(This article expired 24.01.2014 / 01:00.)

The next big event at the Bergen National Opera is the new production of Leoš Janáčeks The Cunning Little Vixen, directed by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak.

The premiere is on Saturday March 9, followed by performances 11th, 13th and 15th of March.

We believe this will be a highly original version of the Vixen, conducted by the young and talented Scottish Rory Macdonald and with Iain Paterson in one of the main roles, along with young fresh Nordic talents. Accompanied by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra & the professional chorus KorVest.

Janáček was an avid follower of the newspaper cartoon strip about the naughty little fox Bystrouska – so much so that she inspired his beautiful, lyrical opera Cunning Little Vixen. His tribute to her turned into an outpouring of glorious, romantic music, which while it paints vivid pictures of the rural, rolling Moravian countryside, also shows us his deep humanity and quirky humour.

The opera portrays, with touching perception, the relationship between humans and animals. So Janáček shows us wistfully the cycle of life – as humans, and in nature. Life in the forest continues, we age, love, re-produce, grow wiser…
