Czech Easter traditions at the Embassy in Oslo

(This article expired 17.03.2011 / 01:00.)

Easter meeting with Czech Easter traditions will take place at the Czech Embassy on Thursday 25 March 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Easter, or Velikonoce, in the Czech Republic is a time of celebrating spring with traditional activities.
The hand-painted or otherwise decorated egg (kraslice) is the most recognizable symbol of Czech Easter. Girls decorate Easter eggs to give them to boys on Easter Monday. There are many Easter egg decorating techniques and different materials can be used, such as bee's wax, straw, watercolors, onion peels, picture stickers.

Men and boys plait traditional whip braided out of pussy willows or other springtime branches. The pomlázka can be any length and braided from three to twelve branches.

On Thursday you can come and see or try to decorate the egg with the hot wax technique and we will try to make some pomlazka also.

Everybody can join after previous registration at the email: oslo@embassy.mzv.cz
