On Monday, July 22, an exhibition of the National Museum of the Czech Republic "Czech castles and chateaux in Bauska" was opened at Bauska Castle Museum.
This is a continuation of the successful project of the National Museum of the Czech Republic, which not so far has hosted an outdoor exhibition of large-format photographs "Czech castles and chateaux in the heart of Riga", located in the historic center of Riga on Līvu Square.
The Deputy Director General of the National Museum M. Stehlík and Mayor of Bauska A. Jātnieks opened the exhibition at Bauska Castle. The director of the Bauska Castle Museum M. Skanis also commemorated the memory of the Czech restorer M. Gavenda, who recently has passed away. Miloš Gavenda has been working on the reconstruction of Bauska Castle since 1996 and was highly respected in Latvia for his expertise. His memory was honoured by a moment of silence. The exhibition was attended by official representatives of the city of Bauska, representatives of the diplomatic corps of Riga and large international group of soldiers who arrived by the invitation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic. After the opening of the exhibition, they could enjoy the guided tour around the castle.
Bauska Castle is one of the most important tourist destinations of Latvia, and therefore the embassy in Riga considers the placing of this representative exhibition at this castle as an effective way of promoting the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic with a great impact on a public (like the case with the exhibition in Riga). Bauska Castle itself is an example of long-term cooperation of Czech and Latvian experts in the terms of restoration of this important architectural monument.
