On 29 September 2022, Czech Presidency diplomats prepared together with ECDPM (European Centre for Development Policy Management) an interactive seminar on the involvement of the private sector in EU development cooperation at the Permanent Representation. The topic is one of the priorities of the Czech Presidency in development cooperation. The event was attended by 90 representatives of Member States, banking sector and financial institutions and agencies, private sector, European institutions and civil society organisations at high-level.
Discussions focused on the relationship between development cooperation and trade policy, incentives and measures for possible strengthening of the involvement of the European private sector in development and, last but not least, to what extent and how synergies between development cooperation and trade promotion instruments and actors can be strengthened, including by improving cooperation between development finance institutions and export credit agencies.
The topic is relevant not only to the EU's role on the global stage, but also in the context of the new financial architecture for development, the new Neighbourhood and Development and International Cooperation Instrument and EFSD+, the Team Europe approach and the Global Gateway initiative.
ECDPM, in cooperation with the Czech Presidency, is preparing a study on the issue, which will be published at the end of the Czech Presidency.
