Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary for everyone interested in the Icelandic language and Iceland

The Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary was published in 2016. The aim of its authors is to bring Iceland closer to everyone interested in the language and the country in general. The Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary fills in the gap in this area and helps to make and advance contacts between people and institutions in both countries.

The Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary is intended for Czech and Slovak students of Icelandic and for everyone interested in the language and the country. It offers encyclopaedic information, an introduction to phonetics and grammar, and a huge number of photographs and illustrations. The dictionary is primarily an online dictionary freely available on the website www.hvalur.org. The printed version of the dictionary has been published at the authors' own expense. Most of the 50 copies are intended for libraries and institutions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Iceland. Both the PDF version and the offline version of the dictionary for various operating systems are freely available for download on the dictionary website.

The Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary contains 54.059 entries with 72.128 meanings, sound recordings of pronunciation made by a native speaker, declensions of nouns, adjectives and pronouns, degrees of comparison of adverbs and conjugations of verbs, examples of words used in phrases, zoological and botanic names in Latin, 11.000 synonyms and antonyms, division of compound words, pictures of animals, birds, fish, plants and Icelandic traditional food.

The authors of the Icelandic-Czech Students' Dictionary are Aleš Chejn, Ján Zaťko and Jón Gíslason. Lucie Brabcová and Martina Kašparová revised the printed version of the dictionary. Vojtěch Kupča agreed to append an updated version of Icelandic grammar to the printed version of the dictionary.
