On May 25 - 26, 2019 another sport diplomacy project took place in Norway, this time focused on chess. A team of young players from the Staré Město Chess Club visited the capital of Norway to play some chess games against the team composed of young chess players from the Oslo Region.
Extraliga chess team up to 18 years from Staré Město Chess Club (www.sachysm.cz) represented by Lucie Ambrožová, Eliška Vavřínková, Vlastimil Babula jr., Lukáš Macháček and Alexandr Skalský with their coaches Antonín Macháček and international grandmaster Vlastimil Babula faced young Norwegian chess players - Daniell Nordquelle, Amadeus Hestvik Evenshaug, Thyra Kvendseth, Ingrid Skaslien, and Sondre Lillestøl Melaa. In a two-day tournament, each player played two games against the same competitor.
After exciting and several hours lasting chess games, the Oslo team came out better, winning the competition by the same ratio of 3.5: 1.5 on both days.
The whole event, which was held under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Norwegian Chess Association Mr. Geir Nesheim and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Norway H. E. Jaroslav Knot, was primarily aimed at establishing a partnership and cooperation between young Czech and Norwegian chess players at the club level, which has been missing so far.
The return match in Staré Město was agreed by the leaders of both teams on September this year.
