Cultural evening with Mr. Thorvald Steen in the Ambassador´s residence

On September 19, 2017 the Czech ambassador H. E. Jaroslav Knot hosted cultural evening lectured by the famous Norwegian writer and historian Mr. Thorvald Steen. The lecture done in Norwegian language was dedicated to the historical influence of the Byzantine Empire on contemporary Czech Republic and Norway. 

In his historical work, Mr. Steen is focused on the Byzantine Empire era. In his evening lecture Thorvald Steen spoke also about the influence of the Byzantines on the Great Moravian Empire (the first state structure in the Czech history).

Distinguished guests from universities, diplomatic corps and literary circles were present in the audience and created a magnificent atmosphere in the course of the whole lecture that was followed by degustation of selected Moravian wines.  

The author and historian Thorvald Steen is considered as a celebrity in Norwegian and Scandinavian literary circles. He has published more than 40 books, ranging from novels, stage plays, essays or collection of poems to children’s books. His works have been translated to 27 languages including Czech.

Thorvald Steen has won many prestigious awards not only in Norway but also abroad. Besides his literacy activities, Mr. Steen is deeply engaged in human rights protection and he is a freedom of speech fighter as well.

His latest book is called Den hvite badehuset (The White Spa). The book contains some autobiographical elements and was really hailed by literary critics as well as welcomed by the Norwegian readers.
