General information

Both the long-term visa and the long-term residence permit are issued when the stay on the territory of the Czech Republic is expected to exceed 3 months. In general, the long-stay visa is primarily intended for persons who expect to stay in the Czech Republic for several months, while long-stay residence permit is primarily intended for persons who expect in the Czech Republic for several years.

Along with the application for a long-term visa or long-term residence permit you must submit:

1. travel document (original),
2. 1 photograph,
3. proof of accommodation,
4. document on the purpose of stay,
5. proof of funds (in case of long-term residence permit, proof of funds is not requested for the purpose of scientific research, blue card and intracompany transfer)
6. a Consent of parents or any other statutory representative or guardian to the permanent residence of a child in the Czech Republic. Consent of a parent is not required, if the parent, statutory representative or guardian making the request for a child, will stay with a child in the territory and if foreign national proves that he / she is a unable to declare consent due to reasons beyond his / her control,
7. an extract from the Penal Register record issued by the state of which you are a citizen (issued by the Passport Office in case of India). You are also requested to submit an extract from the Penal Register record issued by the states in which you have had residence for over 6 months in its summary in the last 3 years. The extract from the Penal Register record may be replaced by an affidavit, if the given state does not issue such a document. The obligation to submit an extract from the Penal Register record does not relate to a foreign national under 15 years old.
8. visa fee.

You have to always submit originals or official copies of the documents. Travel document, document confirming the purpose of stay and registrar documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate) shall be submitted in original. Certified copy is not sufficient for this purpose.

All documents submitted along with the long-term visa/residence permit application have to be in Czech language (bank account statements may be accepted without a translation into the Czech language). All documents submitted in a foreign language must be in original and with an officially certified translation into the Czech language (the applicants are required to arrange the official translation via an official translator, the list is available here: https://seznat.justice.cz/).

We would like to inform you that as of January 1, 2026, the authorization for a large number of translators to perform translation and interpreting activities will cease, in connection with the conditions of new legal regulations in this area. Despite this fact, some translators will still continue to carry out translation activities, even though their authorization to perform this activity has already expired. We recommend all applicants to verify the validity of translators' authorizations through this website address: https://seznat.justice.cz/

The required documents to be submitted with the application cannot be older than 180 days, except for the foreign national's travel document and photograph if it corresponds to his/her true and actual appearance.

Foreign public documents must be supported by a higher verification (Apostille in case of India, superlegalization in case of Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal or Sri Lanka). Superlegalization is provided by the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

Moreover, applicants shall also submit copies of all above-mentioned documents when applying for visas or residence permit.

If your application is approved, prior to affixing the visa, you are obliged to submit a proof of medical travel insurance that corresponds to the specified conditions, and, upon request, a document on paying the insurance presented in the proof of medical travel insurance.

The working languages of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi are Czech, English and Hindi. Applicants for long-term visas and residence permits who cannot communicate in the above stated languages need to arrange, at their own expense, an interpreter.

Processing time of long-term visa and long-term residence permit application

The Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals sets following deadlines for processing an application for a long-term visa/residence permit according to purpose of the application from the day it was filed. Suspension of the administrative proceedings leads to prolongation of the application processing time.

Application for a long-term visa - 90 days (in particularly complicated cases - 120 days)

Application for a long-term visa for the purpose of study and seasonal work - 60 days 

Application for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of  study, scientific research  and family reunification with a researcher – 60 days

Application for a blue card/intracompany tranfer card and their family members – 90 days

Application for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of family reunification - 270 days

Application for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of  investment– 30 days (in particularly complicated cases - 60 days)
