June 2023 IAEA Board of Governors

Ambassador Ivo Šrámek presided over the third Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the 2022/2023 Czech Chairmanship. The long list of agenda items of the Board was successfully concluded and the Chair expressed his gratitude to the IAEA Member States for their kind cooperation and support.

Board Members expressed unanimously their support for the five concrete principles to help ensure nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhyia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in order to prevent a nuclear accident and to ensure the integrity of the ZNPP. These principles were recently outlined by Director General Grossi before the UN Security Council on 30 May. Board also supported the observance of the principles by the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhya (ISAMZ) and requested regular briefings and reporting on their implementation.

In order to address the challenging list of statements, the Chair had to introduce for the first time a clock measuring adherence to the allocated time for the delivered statements of Regional Groups and Member States.

The Chair also thanked on behalf of the Board of Governors Mr. Austin McGill from the Secretariat of the Policy-Making Organs, directly supporting the work of the Board, who is retiring from the Agency after his long and dedicated service.
