The main aim of these Security Days, taking place in Berlin on June 23 and 24, is to generate concrete recommendations for rebuilding trust and confidence in the OSCE region and overcoming different threat perceptions in order to return to co-operative security in the OSCE region.
The event is organized in the format of interactive and open discussion where participants are given the opportunity to engage actively in the discussion on important security issues in the OSCE region and to contribute to their solution. Participants include representatives from several OSCE participating States, NATO, the European External Action Service, Eurasian Economic Commission, think-tanks and civil society, academia and media.
The opening evening panel discussion focused on protection of fundamental freedoms during crises and was looking for answers on complex issues of maintaining the fundamental freedoms and democratic values while effectively dealing with global threats. The central question of this theme was: Are we willing to give up some of our freedoms in exchange for greater security?
The second day of the Conference was dedicated to different perceptions of security and to the current trend of decreasing confidence in the OSCE region and included following topics: Restoring stability and predictability in politico-military sphere, Competition vs. Cooperation: Prospects for Harmonizing Integration Processes and Building Coalitions to Respond to Global and Transnational Challenges.
