The Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the OSCE, Ambassador Ivo Šrámek, has been appointed the Chairperson of the OSCE Human Dimension Committee in 2020 by the OSCE Albanian Chairmanship. The HDC´s Chairmanship of Ambassador Šrámek will thus continue for a second consecutive year. The Committee is an important platform for a constructive dialogue among the OSCE participating States about the implementation and advancement of OSCE commitments in the human dimension.
At the introductory meeting of the Committee on 11 February 2020 Ambassador Šrámek stated that the Committee will particularly focus its work on human rights and fundamental freedoms, including civil and political rights and tolerance and non-discrimination. The OSCE´s human dimension and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms represent a key part of the OSCE´s comprehensive approach to security. It is important to ensure continuity of our activities in the Committee, to maintain focus on the implementation of the existing OSCE commitments and to explore where common ground exists for possible new commitments, Ambassador Šrámek stressed in his introductory statement.
The human dimension of security is one of the three pillars of the OSCE´s comprehensive security concept. Lasting security cannot be achieved without respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and functioning democratic institutions. The OSCE participating States have adopted an impressive number of commitments in this area.
