The Czech Republic took part in ICRC's field visit to South Sudan

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organized for selected donor countries a field visit to South Sudan which took place from 7th to 12th April 2019.  The Czech Republic, providing in recent years a humanitarian assistance, for example through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) or Slovak – Czech humanitarian organization MAGNA, was represented by Mr. Michal Dvořák, member of the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

The main purpose of this initiative was to acquainted with ICRC's activities in South Sudan and in particular its humanitarian assistance to the country. The participants had an opportunity to meet with Minister of humanitarian affairs of South Sudan, Special Representative of the Secretary – General and head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Under - Secretary General of the Ministers of foreign affairs of South Sudan and South Sudan Red cross Secretary General. They visited several facilities supported by ICRC including physical rehabilitation facility, military hospital, primary health care unit, prison and UNMISS base protection of civilian site. 

 The participation of the Czech representative contributed to a better understanding of the humanitarian problems in South Sudan and will enable more effective targeting of humanitarian aid of the Czech Republic in the future.
