Czechia Reaffirms Its Strategic Partnership with IOM

At the 116th Session of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Council, held on 8–10 December 2025, Permanent Representative V. Bálek highlighted the organization’s essential role in preventing irregular migration, promoting regular pathways, and supporting returns and reintegration. He also underlined the growing cooperation between IOM and the EU and praised the organization’s ability to respond to financial challenges.

Between 2020 and 2025, Czechia supported 13 IOM projects worth 11.5 mil. euros; in 2025 alone, it contributed 3 mil. euros to projects in Libya, Greece, and Ukraine.

Czechia also recalled its extraordinary role in hosting people fleeing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, having granted temporary protection to more than 850,000 individuals, nearly 400,000 of whom remain in the country. Ambassador praised IOM’s support in managing the refugee crisis and facilitating integration and reaffirmed that Czechia remains a reliable partner of the organization.
