Czech Republic Addresses UNHCR Executive Committee Session

Ambassador Karel Beran delivered the Czech Republic’s national statement at the 77th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), held for the first time under the leadership of the new High Commissioner and senior management team. In his remarks, he congratulated the new leadership on their appointments and reaffirmed Czechia’s commitment to working closely with UNHCR in addressing growing global displacement challenges.

The Czech Republic emphasized the importance of safeguarding UNHCR’s core protection mandate while advancing durable solutions and greater self-reliance for refugees. The statement also highlighted Czechia’s experience as a host country, having received nearly one million displaced Ukrainians since 2022 and currently hosting around 400,000 people under temporary protection. Czechia further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting UNHCR operations worldwide, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
