On 17 November, the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) Pledging Conference took place, as a flagship initiative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). This event was also attended by the Czech Permanent Representative Václav Bálek who among others emphasized solutions that respect development – humanitarian – peace approach and pledged 100 thousand Swiss francs
The Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) delivers funds directly to local humanitarian actors both before and immediately after a crisis. The goal is to increase funding to reach the target of CHF 100 million per year by 2025.
In his speech, Václav Bálek made an appeal for the triple nexus that operates coherently with humanitarian, development and peacekeeping measures to strengthen resilience in countries and regions vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, security risks and ongoing or potential conflicts. Last but not least, the Permanent Representative also pledged the Czech financial support to the Fund, amounting to 100 thousand Swiss francs.
