The Permanent Mission Hosts Another Event on Disaster Risk Reduction with K. Kishore

On Tuesday, 24 June, the Permanent Mission organized a follow-up seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), focusing on emergency management, local resilience, and crisis communication.

The event was moderated by Mr. Jan Daňhelka, Director of Hydrology at the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI), who had presented a flash flood application at the September seminar — a tool that was put into practical use in Czechia just a week later. During this event, Czech experts from the General Directorate of the Fire Rescue Service and the Ministry of the Interior shared insights gained from the autumn floods. Opening remarks were delivered by H.E. K. Kishore, Head of UNDRR, H.E. Ambassador of Ethiopia T. K. Daka, Chair of the UNDRR Support Group, and H.E. Ambassador of Czechia V. Bálek. The event aimed at representatives of EU member states and African region with an active participation of speakers from UNDRR, IFRC, and the Republic of South Africa, who shared practical insights and lessons learned.

Key messages that resonated throughout the seminar included the need for a strong local focus in DRR activities, the importance of integrating systems (both early warning and post-crisis response), and the value of sharing good practices and lessons learned from challenges. The Permanent Mission plans to continue addressing DRR within the framework of multilateral Geneva, including through another seminar scheduled for autumn this year.
