Czechia helps the IFRC to fight disasters

Czechia will contribute 2.5 million CZK to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) for the year 2024.

This commitment was announced by Ambassador V. Bálek at the Pledging Conference held on November 8, 2024.

The IFRC-DREF has been operating for 45 years and provides financial resources primarily to national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on the ground, both before and immediately after a crisis. This support is not limited to developing countries, but extends to all regions affected by natural disasters or crises such as epidemics. In September 2024, Czechia was among recipients of DREF when the Czech Red Cross accessed funding to assist with flood recovery efforts. The goal of the Fund is to increase its financing to 200 million CHF annually in order to ensure that timely assistance can be provided in the aftermath of disasters.
