Ambassador Václav Bálek contributed to Joint Launch of the Ukraine Humanitarian Response Plan and the Regional Refugee Response Plan for Ukraine. He condemned Russian aggression and recalled Czech efforts and assistance provided.
The release of aid plans for Ukraine, co-organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), took place on 15th February 2023.
The Ambassador recalled that his country pays for the largest host of Ukrainian refugees in terms of population, while in absolute numbers it is almost half a million people, i.e., approximately 5% of the Czech population. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 60 million euro have been allocated for humanitarian and stabilization efforts. Scholarships, shelter, medical supplies, energy sources and much more have been provided.
