35th Special Session of the Human Rights Council

On Thursday, 24 November, the Human Rights Council held a Special Session to address the current human rights situation in Iran.
The Special Session was requested jointly by Germany and Iceland, supported by 17 Member States of the Human Rights Council and 27 other countries. Czechia supported the request. The main outcome of the Session is the establishment of a new UN investigative mechanism that will focus on human rights violations in Iran in the context of the violent crackdown of the protests since September 2022.
