30th Special Session of the Human Rights Council

The 30th Special Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on the grave human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, took place on 27 May 2021

The Special Session of HRC was initiated by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on behalf of Palestine in response to the alleged human rights violations in the context of the recent conflict in the Middle East.

After a debate, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution A/HRC/S-30/L.1 establishing an independent international Commission of Inquiry to investigate all alleged violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and in Israel. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 24 in favour, 14 abstentions and 9 against.

Czechia voted against the resolution in accordance with its instruction and delivered a national statement stressing Hamas’ responsibility for the escalation of violence, supporting Israel’s rights to self-defence and explaining the reasons for not supporting establishment of a Commission of Inquiry of an undetermined duration.
