Czechia at the 48th Session of the UN Human Rights Council

The 48th Session took place from 13 September to 11 October. This was the last Session for Czechia as an HRC Member State during its third Membership.

During the Fall Session of the Council, Czechia presented a national initiative on Equal Participation in Political and Public Affairs in cooperation with a cross-regional group of countries consisting of Botswana, Indonesia, Peru and the Netherlands. The resolution focused on participation in the context of pandemic and post-pandemic recovery including the theme elections. As a long-term human rights priority of Czechia, the initiative builds upon previous resolutions adopted by the Human Rights Council since 2013.

Throughout the Session Czechia was taking part in negotiations of all presented resolutions. Together with its EU partners it presented resolutions on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, in Burundi and on the Mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change (also in cooperation with Marshall Islands, Bahamas, Fiji, Panama, Paraguay and Sudan.

Czechia is a member of the Council for the 2019-2021 term. It was previously a member of the Council in its first year of operation (2006-2007) and in 2011-2014.
